Google Apps Deployments could be free for teams with 250-3000 employees!
Intermedia is a popular provider of Hosted Exchange. Right now their service is down again. It's down pretty often relative to modern cloud computing services like Gmail. It's hard to remember what it's like to have email go down for hours or even days at a time. I can't even recall a few minutes when my Gmail accounts were down and I think this is true for a vast majority of Gmail users. Google takes redundancy very seriously.
While Intermedia continues to cause people problems multiple times per year, the thought of moving email providers can be intimidating - it was probably pretty painful the last time the company made a transition.
Moving from Intermedia to Google Apps can actually be fun and brings a ton of functionality into your organization.
- Depending on the service you have with Intermedia, you can grab mail or mail, contacts and calendars from Intermedia and import the data into the new Google Apps accounts. This is done with a tool called Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange (GAMME) and, despite the specific name, can migrate mail from any IMAP server. This tool is provided with your Apps subscription. There's no downtime and email addresses don't change.
- For those employees who aren't ready to get rid of Outlook (we'll help you convince them they should) you can take advantage of the Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook application - included with your Apps subscriptions.
- Google Apps includes dozens of applications for iPhones, iPads and Android devices - another benefit your employees will love.
- Thanks to Consumerization you already have Gmail experts in your organization that can be tapped to help provide additional resources for employees new to the service.
Consumerization makes Exchange obsolete. It's like running a Blackberry Enterprise Server. At the end of the day it really is silly. If your business is running on Intermedia, you're at a distinct disadvantage to any of your competitors running on Google Apps. Exchange is going to keep breaking. Outlook is going to keep breaking. Your business doesn't have to break with them anymore. You have other options.
